Each Election Worker has specific duties on Election Day. All positions, except the Deputy, use some type of electronic device to perform their assigned tasks.

Precinct Clerk

  • Responsible for the efficient operation of the polling location on Election Day.
  • Ensures order is maintained, and the Election Board performs its duties correctly on Election Day.
  • Picks up supplies from the Election Operations Center before each election and returns at the end of Election Day.
  • Maintains all paperwork at the polling location.
  • Assigns additional duties as necessary to the other Election Workers.

Assistant Clerk

  • Assists the Clerk as needed through the day and will serve as Precinct Clerk if needed.
  • Assists with opening and closing procedures at the polling location.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the electronic poll books.
  • Uses an electronic poll book to verify voter information.
  • Completes the appropriate forms to update eligible voter records.
  • Communicates with the Supervisor of Elections Office to resolve any questions.

Check-in Specialist

  • Verifies voter identification.
  • Uses an electronic poll book for voter check-in and issues ballots to voters.
  • Assists with setting up and breaking down the polling room.

Voting Equipment Operator

  • Responsible for proper operation and security of multiple voting equipment.
  • Stationed at the Ballot Box to instruct voters how to use the voting equipment.
  • Sets up and shuts down voting equipment, including transmitting election results after the polls have closed.
  • Assists with setting up and breaking down the polling room.

Deputy

  • Maintain order outside the polling place.
  • Posts signs and materials outside and near the entrance of the polling location.
  • Marks and ensures compliance of the no-solicitation zone.
  • Ensures the polling room is accessible to all voters.
  • Assists with setting up and breaking down the polling room.

Alternate

  • Hired and trained for the specific purpose of being ready to work on an as-needed basis.
  • Do not report to a polling place until contacted by the Elections Office.
  • Remain available to report to a polling place until 9 am on Election Day.
On Election Day, Election Workers work as a team with the Supervisor of Elections staff to ensure the Election process's integrity and guarantee the voting rights of all qualified voters in Polk County.
